SUMMARY
The Tandem Duplex Series brings together three urban infill duplex designs within Denver neighborhoods, each one a distinct response to its site and context, all three expressing MmD Architecture’s commitment to design quality at every scale. The tandem duplex typology, two units stacked front to back on a narrow urban lot, is one of Denver’s most common infill conditions. The series demonstrates that it is also one of the most compelling opportunities for thoughtful design.
At Zenobia, the design is bold and graphic, dark charcoal metal panel cladding the upper volumes against a white stucco base, with large format windows and pitched gable rooflines that assert a strong modern presence on the street. Yates takes a warmer approach, buff brick veneer and wood siding introducing texture and material depth within the same disciplined massing, the palette shifted but the design authorship consistent. At Lowell, the design turns toward the Denver bungalow tradition, brick veneer, covered front porches, and gable windows that engage the residential fabric of the block with precision and care. Three sites, three palettes, one standard of design.
